Our specialists provide expert consultations, treatment planning, and coordinated ongoing care.
While we do not perform diagnostic tests or procedures onsite, pathology and radiology imaging services are available within the Mater Hospital precinct.
Where are you located and is parking available?
Our home clinic is located at Suite 4.05, Level 4, Mater Private Clinic, 550 Stanley Street, South Brisbane.

Public transport, including bus and train services, are within easy walking distance.
What are your opening hours?
Our clinic is open Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm. We are not open public holidays.

Is the clinic wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The Mater Private Clinic offers full wheelchair accessibility, including lifts, ramps, and accessible bathrooms.
Appointments and Referrals
Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
Yes. A valid referral from your GP or another specialist is required to claim a Medicare rebate and ensure continuity of care.
Referrals from GPs are valid for 12 months, and those from specialists for 3 months.
How can I make an appointment?
Our specialists arrange appointments following receipt and triaging of your referral. Once triaged, our friendly receptionists will contact you via phone to arrange an appointment. This process takes roughly 5 – 7 business days from the date of receipt of your referral.
Routine review appointments can be arranged via phone.

What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring:
- Your current referral letter
- Medicare and private health insurance cards
- Any recent scans, blood test results, or relevant reports
- A list of your current medications
Can I request a specific doctor?
Yes, you may request a specific specialist. Appointments are subject to their availability. Should the requested doctor determine that their waiting time is too long to be suitable, they may recommend another specialist within our practice.
How long will I wait for an appointment?
Wait times vary by specialist and urgency. All referrals are triaged, and we prioritise urgent cases. We aim to accommodate all patients as soon as possible.
Can I have a telehealth consultation?
Yes. Telehealth is available for eligible patients, especially for follow-up consultations and where clinically appropriate.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or change your appointment.
Missed appointments may incur a fee.
Fees and Billing
Do you bulk bill?
We are a private specialist clinic. Consultation fees apply, and Medicare rebates are available for patients with valid referrals.
You will be informed of any fees and potential out-of-pocket costs when booking.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept EFTPOS, Visa, MasterCard, and bank transfer. Payment is required on the day of consultation.
Can I claim through private health insurance?
Private health insurance does not cover outpatient consultations but may assist with hospital procedures or inpatient care arranged by your specialist.
Are there any additional fees?
Fees may apply for reports, forms, medical certificates, or correspondence outside of your consultation.
Will I receive a receipt for Medicare claims?
Yes. You’ll receive an itemised receipt, and we can process your Medicare rebate electronically.
Medical Records and Privacy
How do I access my medical records or results?
Your specialist will discuss test results with you directly at the time of your appointment, and a copy of all results will be forwarded to your referring doctor or GP.
If you require a copy of your records, please contact reception — doctor authority and a signed consent form may be required.
Will my GP receive updates about my care?
Yes. Your GP or referring doctor will receive a summary of each consultation and any relevant updates. A copy of all results will be forwarded to your GP or referring doctor.
How is my privacy protected?
We comply with the Australian Privacy Principles and all relevant health privacy legislation.
Your records are stored securely and shared only with your consent or as required by law.

Can I update my contact or personal details?
Yes. Please inform reception via phone or email if your address, phone number, or GP details change to help us maintain accurate records.
Specialist Care and Treatments
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your specialist will review your referral, medical history, and any recent test results.
A thorough assessment will be performed, which may include a physical examination, and your doctor will discuss your diagnosis, treatment options, and any recommended further tests.
How are treatment plans decided?
Your treatment is tailored to your specific condition and overall health.
Our specialists work closely with your GP, hospital teams, and allied health professionals to provide coordinated, evidence-based care.
Do your specialists perform surgery or hospital procedures?
Yes. Our specialists are credentialed at major hospitals within the Mater network and other local facilities to perform inpatient or surgical procedures.
What if I experience side effects or complications after treatment?
Contact our clinic as soon as possible for advice.
If your symptoms are severe or occur after hours, attend your nearest Emergency Department.

Do you provide second opinions?
Yes. Our specialists are available for second opinions and reviews of existing treatment plans or diagnoses.
Tests and Results
Can I have tests done at your clinic?
Our clinic does not perform tests onsite, but pathology and imaging services are available within the Mater Hospital precinct for your convenience.
How will I receive my test results?
Your specialist will review and discuss your results during your scheduled consultation or via telehealth.
Results are not routinely given over the phone unless specifically arranged by your specialist. A copy of all results will be sent directly to your GP or referring doctor.
How long do test results take?
Timing depends on the type of test. Most standard results are available within a few days; specialised tests may take longer.
Communication and After-Hours Care
How can I contact the clinic?
You can contact us by phone during office hours or by email.
We do not provide after-hours clinical services.
How do I contact the clinic after hours?
For urgent urological issues, existing patients can choose to be connected to the on-call urologist by calling our practice number and selecting Option 1 when prompted.
For all other urgent medical issues, contact your GP, an after-hours medical service, or attend your nearest emergency department.
Can I email my doctor directly?
For privacy reasons, we ask that all communication goes through our reception.
Our staff will ensure your message reaches the appropriate specialist.
Please note that our specialists do not routinely give clinical advice via email and if required, a formal appointment should be arranged.
Will I receive reminders for appointments or follow-ups?
Yes. We send SMS reminders for upcoming appointments and follow-ups one week from the date of your appointment. You will also receive an emailed confirmation at the time of booking your appointment.

Urology
What conditions do your urologists treat?
We manage urinary tract conditions, prostate and bladder disorders, kidney stones, urinary incontinence, male infertility, and urological cancers.
Do urologists perform procedures at the clinic?
Procedures are not performed at our clinic; they are arranged at accredited hospitals within the Mater network.
How do I prepare for a urology appointment?
Bring any previous imaging or test results, a list of medications, and note any urinary symptoms or concerns.
Nephrology
When should I see a nephrologist?
You may be referred for high blood pressure, abnormal kidney function tests, chronic kidney disease, or electrolyte imbalances.
Early assessment can help prevent disease progression.
Do you manage dialysis patients?
Yes. Our nephrologists coordinate care for patients receiving haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis through hospital and home-based programs.
Can you help manage transplant care?
Yes. We provide long-term follow-up and medical management for kidney transplant recipients.
Infectious Diseases
When should I see an infectious diseases specialist?
If you have recurrent infections, unexplained fevers, infections after surgery, travel-related illness, or antibiotic-resistant infections.
Do you offer travel medicine consultations?
Yes. Our infectious diseases specialist will provide pre-travel consultations, immunisation advice, and management of post-travel illnesses.
Can I get vaccinations at the clinic?
No. We do not offer vaccination services in our clinic.
Radiation Oncology
What happens during radiation therapy?
You’ll meet with our radiation oncologist who will assess your condition, discuss treatment options, and develop a personalised plan.
Treatment involves precise delivery of radiation to target cancer cells while minimising harm to healthy tissue.
Is radiation therapy painful?
No, the treatment itself is painless. Some patients may experience localised side effects, which your specialist will help you manage.
How long does treatment take?
The number and length of sessions depend on your cancer type and treatment plan. Your radiation oncologist will explain this in detail.
Can I continue working during treatment?
Many patients can continue normal activities, depending on their energy levels and treatment schedule.

Support and Follow-Up
Do you provide follow-up care after treatment?
Yes. Follow-up care is an important part of your management plan and ensures ongoing monitoring of your condition and recovery.
Are support services available?
Yes. Our specialists can refer you to allied health professionals, counsellors, or support organisations relevant to your condition.
Can my family attend my appointments?
Yes, you’re welcome to bring a family member or support person to your consultation. If you wish to bring more than one additional person to your consultation, we ask that you kindly contact our rooms in advance such that we can assess the waiting room capacity relevant to clinics.
